Explore! offer two tours around Kazakhstan in 2008. Click on the links for more information and more tours:

Heart of the Celestial Mountains: 16 days. Our aim is to stand before the massive, marble peak of Kan Tengri - one of the most northerly peaks over 7000 metres on our planet. To achieve this, we undertake a fantastic trek which involves hiking through majestic alpine scenery, possible encounters with nomad people in wild Kazakhstan valleys, and a helicopter flight to Inylchek Glacier to walk in the shadow of Tien Shan's highest peaks.

Central Asia Overland: 28 days, China - Kazakhstan - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan.
From Urumqi, capital of China's remote north-west, we drive to Kuqa, a staging post on the Silk Road. We venture forth into one of the greatest 'voids' on earth - the Taklamakan Desert.
A Silk Road trading centre for two millennia, traders from the neighbouring countries of Central Asia still flock to Kashgar and we plan to absorb ourselves in this exotic ethnic mix at the fabled Sunday bazaar and livestock market.
Leaving the heat of the Tarim Basin behind, our route starts to climb and wind as we venture up into the snow-capped Tien Shan mountains that separate China from Kyrgyzstan. Crossing the border and the legendary Torugart Pass (3752m), the scenery starts to change, the dry and desolate landscape giving way to forested mountains and lush steppe.
Open to visitors since 1991, Kyrgyzstan offers an unforgettable setting, as well as a warm Central Asian welcome from these traditionally nomadic people. In a beautiful hidden valley at Tash Rabat, we stay in a yurt camp next to the brooding ruins of an old fortified caravanserai. We have another taste of the nomadic life staying in the alpine pastures at Lake Song Kul.
After sightseeing in Tashkent, we travel by overnight sleeper train to Urgench and head to the romantic city of Khiva - an old walled caravan halt that was once an important stop on the Silk Road. We explore the maze of twisting alleyways, medieval mosques, tombs and palaces before driving to the magical city of Bokhara.
From Bokhara we drive to the old Silk Road town of Karmana. Here we turn off the highway and using bus and 4WDs, we reach our desert camp.
Two days are spent in Samarkand, the capital of Tamerlane's empire which contains some of Asia's most stunning architecture.
