Madagascar Wilderness Trek:
A 15 day tour with accommodation ranging from hotels, to camping or village stays in volving plenty of village and wildlife encounters.
Hike the granite peaks and rainforest of Andringitra, the remote wilderness of Isalo's sandstone canyons and enjoy traditional village life of the Malagasy people.
The tour starts in Antananarivo and includes walking the forest reserve of Ialatsara to see the bamboo lemur and the Anja reserve for it's ring-tailed lemurs.
Then we travel south to the granite hills of Andringitra National Park, camping there and spending four days trekking, including a hike up Imarivolanitra, the highest point in south Madagascar, with a chance to spot fifteen species of lemur.
We then travel southwest to a vast savannah grazed by herds of zebu before arriving at the labyrinth of canyons of Isalo National Park, our second trekking site. Over the next four days we explore this remarkable region before heading for coastal Tulear and on by boat to the beach at Anakao. We end our tour there at the fishing village with its hundreds of outrigger canoes looking out onto some of the finest snorkelling and diving spots in Madagascar.
Madagascar remains a challenge for the adventurous traveller. Temperatures can be cold in the highlands, especially June to August.
