Marine life: The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. A cluster of islands buzzing with curious animals unaffected by human presence - seals, iguanas, giant tortoises, penguins and blue footed boobies, to start with.

Polar wildlife: Antarctic and South Georgia cruises, to see millions of seals, penguin, albatross, whales and more, mainly from ship decks or inflatables but also some walking with wildlife. Best Dec-Jan. OK Nov, Feb, March. See tourist information for possible polar cruise routes.

Polar life, Arctic: Churchill, Hudson Bay, Northern Canada. Excellent arctic scenery and cool animals - polar bears, caribou, wolves, whales and seabirds. Best March - Nov, especially October for polar bear migration. Avoid the rest of the year. More tourist information | Canada pictures

Tiger safari: Ranthambore National Park, India. This park in March gives tourists the best possible shot of a tiger as the monsoons come later, undergrowth is limited and the real heat has yet to kick in. Open Nov-June, but Best Feb - April. India Pictures
