Marine life: The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. A cluster of islands buzzing with curious animals unaffected by human presence. This is the season in which giant tortoise eggs hatch and the Charles Darwin Research Centre offers a good chance to see the little hard hats.

Whales and Penguin, New Zealand. January is still summer in New Zealand so days are long, the weather is calm and whale and Orcas watching off Kaikoura [http://www.kaikoura.co.nz/ ; between Christchurch and Picton, east coast of the South Island] is full-on, yellow-eyed penguins cluster on the Otago Peninsula [south east, Dunedin, South Island] and dolphin sport around the Bay of Islands [north of the North Island]. Big game safari:
Serengetti, Tanzania. A classic safari park with a great variety of animals, but no driving off the tracks so animal access can be limited. Rhino and tiger safari: Royal Chitwan Park, Nepal. Fun elephant back rides in search of tigers and rhinos; sightings of the former unlikely, the latter, probable. Best Nov-April. Nepal Pictures
