Camden Lock Market before the gold rush, Camden Town, London.
Camden Lock Market - eclectic, anarchic, artistic, great value, where old hippies go to die - has been bugbog's favourite 'street' market for an embarrassing number of years [actually ever since one of our crew had a 'funky foot' stall there] and has grown exponentially into a vast but still individualistic enterprise that now covers several city blocks and merges into other, newer markets of differing standards. But beware, the real and original Camden Lock Market starts on the right of the lock [canal water height control system] as seen in the picture below.

The actual lock in Camden, still in use. The original Camden market is on the right side, across the canal bridge from which the photo was taken.
Market Opening Hours: Open every day from 10:00am - 6:00pm [but much less crowded in the morning] except 25 December. Saturday and Sunday have some specially original stalls and offerings.
Address: Chalk Farm Road, London.

The origin of the Camden species, Market Hall.
Small shops and stalls sell fashions, jewellery and all manner of strange goodies from young designers around the world. Delicious global foods are also on offer, the real thing made by expatriates. Recently we came across superb Arepas by Venezuelans, falafel by Israelis, sushi by Japanese, West African, Moroccan...

Where Camden Lock Market merges into Stables Market.

Part of the enormous food court in the Stables area.

A Moroccan café.

Cyberdog, the wildest and most futuristic of all the stores in the area. This shop is a LED flashing, mind-expanding, ear-imploding, Matrixian event. Not to be missed.

Genuine, solid, tasty, Venezuelan cuisine, lovingly prepared by Venezuelans.

Camden Town High Street on a Saturday afternoon, leading from Camden Town tube 500m to Camden Lock Market.
Getting to Camden Lock:
By Tube/Underground: Either 500m walk from Camden Town or 700m from Chalk Farm tube. At weekends Camden Town tube may be closed for outgoing travellers due to the vast numbers. Mornington Crescent tube is another 500m down the High Street past camden Town and will be open.
Walk up this street from the tube exit, past all the shops and other mediocre market stalls until you cross the canal bridge. Turn left there and start to wander.
