...do spit in your face... |

Pictures:
Machu Picchu's avant-garde architecture. This one's an Inca jailhouse;
a bold tourist gets a facefull
of rank spit from a typically alpaca; a brutal guard llama doing the rounds.
Machu
Pichu is a place to hang out, write diaries, climb every viewpoint,
wander in wonder,
contemplate the universe,
catch some sun, torment
llamas, what you will - but it needs more than a few hours, and
needs them
early in the morning
before the train arrives and the
video-toting Italians hit the ticket gate.
There is one expensive hotel, the Sanctuary Lodge,
next to the site, giving excellent and less crowded
early morning access to the site [opens at 6.am, first train tourists arrive at 9.30am], and guest houses, restaurants,
and hot springs
not far from the rail station, at Aguas Calientes, about six kms away. More about Machu Picchu, Peru.
