Piazza della Signoria, Florence.
Probably the city's most interesting space, Piazza Signoria offers the Fountain of Neptune on the left, Palazzo Vecchio straight ahead and the Loggia dei Lanzi [an ancient, elite meeting place/open-air museum/viewing platform for the Medici family] on the right. Part of the Uffizi gallery is visible through the Loggia.

A copy of Michelangelo's David statue - along with his pet pigeon - in front of Firenze's Town Hall, the Palazzo Vecchio was built in 1299 as a fortress/palace. It is now a superb historic museum as well as still being used for city functions.

The Loggia dei Lanzi on Piazza Signoria, simply loaded with marvellous statuary including Cellini's 10 year task, Perseus and Medusa [with Cellini's face appearing twice!]; the plinth alone took a couple of years.

A lion in the Loggia.

The Fountain of Neptune. On the left is a beautiful relief of a triumphal Roman procession. Click to see Il Duomo images.
