Set up in 1885 Banff is Canada's oldest national park and sits on the British Columbia/Alberta border. It embraces over 6,000 sq. kilometres [2,500 sq miles] of forests, mountains, glaciers and ice fields and adjoins Lake Louise and Jasper National Park to the north.
The park is open all year round and is particularly stunning in wintertime.
Getting to Banff town: Banff, the heart of the park, is around 120 kilometres [75 miles] west of Calgary, Alberta.
